As you probably know, this year at Central Christian Church, we are exploring a different element of faith each month. February is designated as the month we talk about and practice Prayer and the Meditative Life.
When I was selected as the staff contact for the Prayer and Meditation team, I was willing to participate, but wondered just how interesting a group about praying and meditation could be.
Was I ever wrong! Our team has met numerous times in the last couple of months, and I am thrilled at the energy and excitement (yes…excitement!) that is generated at these gatherings. I am sure that during the next month, you will find new ways, or rediscovering ways, to connect with God.
We will be having special worship services each Wednesday evening before the break-out sessions (February 8, 15, and 29) as well as a very special Ash Wednesday service on February 22. You will have the opportunity to learn how to meditate on scripture, sing prayers, and lift your voice in praise.
Each Sunday, we are going to focus on a different section of the Lord’s Prayer to help us better understand what we’re saying when we pray it each week.
At the Spiritual Gifts Fair, on February 5, you will have a chance to sign up for a small group experience in spiritual formation, learn about some plans to build a prayer garden and meditation space, and explore some ways to turn your crafting skills into items that bring joy to the sick and lonely of our community.
I hope you will take full advantage of the opportunities set before you in February. Let’s open our minds, our hearts, and our spirits to find the joy and excitement in the acts of prayer and meditation!
